Luca Milasi
Short bio:
Luca Milasi earned his PhD from the University of Rome "La Sapienza," completing a dissertation on Early Modern Japanese Writers and Chinese literature. He also holds a summa-cum-laude Master degree in Oriental Languages and Civilizations from the same institution. Milasi has lectured at Sapienza University in Japanese language and culture, Japanese philology and palaeography and Korean philology as adjunct (2010-), assistant (2012-), and associate (2019-present) professor. He has been visiting professor at the University of Tokyo (2020) to teach translation theory, and at Hanyang University (2023) to research medieval Korean language and literary genres. He is an active member of the doctoral board at Sapienza and supervises numerous doctoral and master's theses. His research interests include classical and modern literature, comparative linguistic studies, and the intersection of literature and history. Milasi has been involved in international archive projects on Christianity in Asia such as the Marega Project (https://www.nijl.ac.jp/pages/marega/en/), and received a Toshiba International Foundation Grant for his work on specific teaching methods of Japanese historical documents' language and notation. He is a member of the editorial board of the "Rivista degli Studi Orientali" (https://www.jstor.org/journal/rivideglstudorie) and served on organizing committees for international symposia funded by the Japan Foundation and Academy of Korean Studies. His academic contributions have been acknowledged through grants and awards.
